June 4, 2009: Limon, CO

This was the first of a 4 day chasing trip with Joel Lampe and Shawn Hewitt. The first day we targeted NE Colorado around the Sterling Area, leaving around 1 AM the night before. We had lunch at a Sonic in Sterling, which was the first time I've been to one. After waiting a while outside of town, we decided to head south to the thunderstorms near Limon and not wait around any longer up north. After spending another hour plus napping in Last Chance, Colorado, storms eventually got their act together, and we had a great view of a strange NE sided updraft that was semi sculptured. The slow movement and high vantage point allowed us to time lapse and watch it for what seemed like an hour.

Radar scan at the time, showing our position with the white circle. We are looking to the left (West). Notice the couplet on the velocity scan, and the small inflow notch similar feature near there.
